What will be provided by Colorado Water Sports?

Colorado Water Sports will supply an unlimited supply of drinking water, all the boats, paddleboards, kayaks, canoes and all the safety equipment.

Can I drop / pickup my child before / after the regular 9:00 to 4:00 hours?

Yes.  There is an additional fee of $10 to drop off from 8:00 to 8:45 and an additional fee of $20 for picking up after 4:15.  Anny child not being picked up by 6:00 will incur a cost of $5. / minute after 6:00 p.m.  This may seem excessive, but the staff can not go home until you have picked up your child.

What if my child gets injured?

An instructor will fill out an injury report whenever they administer first aid for a child.  This includes any minor injury such as a bruise, cut or banged head.  This report will be sent home with your child at the end of the day.

What is the camper to instructor ratio?

The maximum camper to instructor ratio is 8:1.  This limit is to insure that your child can learn and have fun in a safe environment.

What if there is inclement weather?

Classes are held rain or shine.  We adjust activities each day to suit the weather conditions.  We also have a covered area which will protect the campers and instructors from the sun and rain.  In case of sever weather, the local park washrooms (100 yards away) are severe weather shelters.

Does my child need to be a strong swimmer?

Your child should be able to swim 30 yards and tread water to 5 minutes to attend our camps.

Every camper participates in a swim assessment on the first day.  This requires each child to swim 15 yards without wearing a lifejacket, then put on a PFD while treading water and swim the remaining 15 yards back to the starting point.  This is all completed under close supervision from our camp instructors.  Every camper and instructor will also be equipped with a PFD and it is camp policy that we all wear these when doing any water activities.

How qualified are the Instructors to supervise my child?

The safety and well being of your children is of paramount importance to us at Colorado Watersports.  This is why our instructors are qualified to the highest standards.  They are all First Aid and CPR trained.  They have all had background checks.

How will you manage different abilities and ages?

Our instructors are trained to adapt their teaching techniques for different ages and abilities.  They will also ensure that they are divided according to their skill set.  For example all of our boats are designed for two children and this pairing will tend to be of similar age, strength and ability.

We have found that a range of ages in a group or team tends to promote the development of leadership qualities.  This is why our camps serve a wider are range than some of the other camps (7 - 12 years).

The camp sounds tiring.  Will my child become exhausted?

The schedule is busy but we have very regular snack and water breaks.  Please help us to manage this by ensuring that your child arrives with a water bottle and enough food to replenish their energy for the duration of the day.
