Learn how to sail a dinghy with Colorado Watersports! We run lessons on Sunday Mornings 8-10 AM. No experience is necessary. This is a requirement for anyone who would like to rent a dinghy this summer.

What is a dinghy?

A small, light boat that you generally rig ashore and launch every time you go sailing. Because of this, dinghies are easily transportable but also prone to capsizing! They are great fun to sail with an immediate response. However, there are some types of boats and also conditions where you will need to be quick and agile to balance the boat. If you don't mind ending up in the water occasionally, dinghies might be just the thing for you.

Who is this for?

This course is designed for adults, but children are welcome as long as they are with a parent or guardian. Come on down!

This syllabus covers the following:

  • Rigging
  • Basic sailing terminology
  • How to sail in all directions
  • Awareness of launching and recovering
  • Capsize recovery in shallow water

Prior Experience Needed:

None.

Objectives:

By the end of the lesson, you should be able to set up your boat ready for next time, sail in light winds and 'right'/recover your boat if it capsizes.
